Teaching Future Birders

Our Executive Director, Joaquín Swett-Fosmo, has been busy this October teaching nearly 650 students from all over Whidbey Island about birds, birding, and habitats, using specimens from our Bird Specimen Collection. The students, aged between kindergarten and 4th grade, visited YMCA Camp Casey on field trips from their schools and got to experience various other activities hosted by local nonprofits such as learning from Sound Water Stewards in the Camp Casey SeaLab with its collection of tide pools, to beach walks and learning about marine mammals, to going climbing on the climbing wall!
