Other Ways to Give
Wills and Bequests
One of the easiest ways to protect birds and their habitats on Whidbey Island is to leave a charitable bequest to Whidbey Audubon. A bequest is a gift to an individual, institution or charity from an individual’s estate after the group has been named as a beneficiary in his or her will.
A bequest to Whidbey Audubon is free from federal and state taxes. The amount of the bequest is deducted from your estate total, offering substantial savings by decreasing the value of the estate subject to taxation. There is no limit to the amount of your estate that can be left to charitable organizations.
For gifts that take effect after your lifetime, we suggest you name Whidbey Audubon Society as follows:
“I bequeath XX % of my residuary estate (or $XXXXX) to Whidbey Audubon Society, a not-for-profit environmental conservation organization, with its principal offices located at PO Box 1012, Oak Harbor, WA 98277, for its ongoing environmental conservation and educational purposes. EIN # 80-0488910.”
Give from your IRA
If you are 73 or older, you must take a yearly Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA. For many people, this added taxable income is not needed and may even push them into a higher tax bracket.
One way to reduce your taxable income is through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Whidbey Audubon. These distributions do not count as taxable income and may even reduce certain income-related costs, such as Medicare IRMAA surcharges.
You can designate Whidbey Audubon Society as the recipient of your QCD:
EIN: 80-0488910
Address: PO Box 1012, Oak Harbor, WA 98277
You can also name Whidbey Audubon Society as a beneficiary of your 401(k), IRA, or other retirement accounts. Gifts from pension plans are issued free of federal taxes.
