Save the date for the 61st Annual Wenas Campout.
Wenas has something for everyone. Looking to add some birds to your life list? The combination of elevation and several arid land habitats means a long list of common species that you won’t find in the Puget Sound area. Those who enjoy nature journaling and field sketching can sit by the stream (or right at your campsite) and draw with experienced artists who share their tips with you.
Has your interest in birds led you down the path to identifying bird food (and the food of the bird food)? Well, insects of many families and native plants in bloom abound both in the campground and the surrounding hills. In the morning follow the trails of nocturnal beetles through the road dust until the air warms and the butterflies emerge. At dusk attend the campfire talk, then watch for bats and listen for owls from the comfort of your campsite or head up the creek to listen for owls and look for snakes and moths.
Go to every fieldtrip location or never leave the campground, come for a day or stay the whole weekend. There is no wrong way to do Wenas. Nature enthusiasts of all skill levels are welcome. There is no fee to attend and no pre-registration required. Donations to cover the costs of the porto potties are encouraged and a Discover Pass is needed for each vehicle.
