Shorebirds: an online class series with David Droppers. Register now!

Move from beginner to expert so you can get excited about shorebird season!

David Droppers, instructor

David Droppers has been teaching courses on topics from birds to butterflies to trees to microorganisms for a variety of groups, including college biology courses and nonprofit environmental groups. He has put his expertise to work for the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, University of Washington and Woodland Park Zoo, among many others.

Shorebirds are not popular with beginning birders because they're so similar, so variable and such a challenge. Shorebirds are popular with experts for the exact same reasons! So don't be intimidated by these fascinating, and frankly cute birds that grace our shores (and other habitats) for brief periods of the year.

David Droppers is the instructor. He willl focus on identification and teach you tricks that will make tackling shorebirds less intimidating. A field trip around Whidbey Island during fall migration will help solidify what you learn in class.

  • Online sessions: Tuesday, August 12, 19, 26; 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Field trip: Saturday, September 6

  • Cost: $100
