Field Trip Report: Hoypus Point April 5
By Dave Parent, Trip leader
Five enthusiastic participants met me and the state park employee at the locked gate to the Hoypus Point Road. Weather was pleasant with minimal wind. We scanned Cornet Bay but found only a few birds including Pied-billed Grebe, Canada Geese, Pelagic Cormorants and Buffleheads. We walked slowly down the road looking and listening for forest birds.
The most common birds by far were Pine Siskins and singing Yellow-rumped Warblers. At the first opportunity to head uphill into the forest, we located several more species including Pacific Wren, Varied Thrushes, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Song Sparrow among others. We then walked downhill and back to our cars.
We had a very nice two hour bird walk with wonderful spring weather and great company.
